Gaining CPD

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is compulsory for all professionals whether you are accountants, engineers or architects. This page discussed ACCA's CPD.

Why is CPD important?

Constant changes to law and regulations and legislative standards of professionals bodies to keep up with current economic environment and high quality demand from societies,  it is important all professionals to have up to date knowledge of the current changes in order to provide good quality  services to customers whether through employment or as a business owner.

What activity undertaken can be recognised as CPD?

Any activity undertaken can be recognised as CPD as long as it is relevant to your career. This includes attending meeting, event, doing research on particular subject matters, reading articles, work based learning through coaching, mentoring and training within your firm and so on.

There are three general rules to determine whether a particular activity undertaken by you can be accounted for as your ;CPD. You may recognised a particular learning activity undertaken if you can

  • Explain how the activity undertaken is relevant to your career.
  • Explain how you have or will apply what you have learned from the activity undertaken.
  • Provide evidence of the activity undertaken. Evidence can be a form of course notes, research materials and through certification by your employer.

How can we gain CPD units?

ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountant) organise wide range of CPD courses to help its members and students to achieve their CPD requirements by sending out quarterly events booklets to members and maintaining a knowledge library for members’ usage which contains reading and research materials as well as access to all auditing and financial reporting standards.

Alternatively, you may obtain three verifiable CPD units by reading an article from ACCA website and answer five multiple-choice questions online correctly online. The questions are randomly selected electronically from a bank of possible questions. a certificate will be generated if you answers all the questions correctly for which you may record your CPD points and update you CPD records.

Members who work in a practice registered as CPD employer is not required to keep records of their CPD records. Otherwise, members will have to opt for CPD units route which is to obtain 19 verifiable units and 21 non-verifiable units per year.

Please note that practices with accredited employer status is not the same as CPD registered employer status.

CPD evidence

ACCA encourage members to records their CPD records online which allow members to update their records as and when they want to. Alternatively, you may submit your CPD returns at end of each year.

Please feel free to send us email if you have any questions on CPD.
